Program features prolific geographer June 6

May 28, 2009

Though his name seems alien and foreign to us today, Increase Lapham, 19th century Renaissance Man, was more familiar with our local landscape than most of us ever will be. The Milwaukee Public Library presents a free program on Increase Lapham, Wisconsin geographer extraordinaire, Saturday, June 6, 2-4pm in the Central Library Rare Books Room. Lapham was involved in many facets of life in Milwaukee and Wisconsin from 1836 to 1875, and his work influences us today in the 21st century. Rob Nurre, a landscape historian from Columbus, Wis., will portray Lapham and discuss his life and work as part of the ongoing Richard E. and Lucile Krug Rare Books Room series. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Call (414) 286-3071 to register.
