New options for recycling consumer electronics, including TVs

Wisconsin’s new electronics recycling law bans certain electronic items from landfills, such as TVs, computers, printers and fax machines. It also creates a statewide recycling program called E-Cycle Wisconsin. City of Milwaukee residents may recycle electronics through the E-Cycle program for free at City Self-Help Centers located at 6660 N. Industrial Rd. and 3879 W. Lincoln Ave.
The E-Cycle program is the state’s first comprehensive system in Wisconsin for recycling electronics from households and K-12 public schools. Until now, local governments and taxpayers were often left paying the bill for recycling and cleaning up improperly managed electronics. Under the new program, manufacturers will bear the primary financial responsibility for the recycling of banned electronics.
For more information, including a full list of banned items, visit the DPW’s website or call (414) 286-CITY (2489).
Encourage others to take the recycling pledge by visiting www.MilwaukeeRecycles.com. Select “Pledge to be a Recycler” on the top right side of the page. Informational emails about special events and other important recycling information will be sent out periodically to those who pledge.
