Fairview School to unveil, celebrate, and explain new solar panels
January 15, 2010
Students, staff and families at Fairview School, 6500 West Kinnickinnic River Parkway, will hold a reception to unveil new solar panels at the school on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 1-2pm. The school has installed solar panels, which will provide electrical energy and a reduction of the school’s energy costs.
The solar panel project is part of the Greening of Fairview plan, which was initiated last year by the Fairview School Governance Council.
There also will be a number of student and classroom presentations linked to learning about environmentally conscious living and renewable energy. Students will wear orange, yellow or green on the day of the reception. There also will be a traveling display from WE Energies set up near the school entrance.
A representative from the City of Milwaukee Office of Environmental Sustainability will participate. Guests from WE Energies and Wisconsin Focus on Energy are scheduled to participate and explain how reimbursement grants made the project possible.
The purposes of the reception are to thank WE Energies and Wisconsin Focus on Energy for their financial assistance; demonstrate how the solar project is connected to Fairview’s teaching and learning activities; and expand awareness in the school community about Fairview’s efforts to do its part in actions and words to be socially and environmentally conscious consumers of energy.
