Serbian Stojo’s on Lake Drive

September 27, 2008

Stojo’s Café opened Aug. 1 at 4671 S. Lake Dr. in Cudahy.

The café was recently remodeled in summery beige tones with modern accents and has a full bar with a jukebox and arcade games.

The menu offers traditional burgers and appetizers as well as Serbian specialties. The Serbian entrees include Burek-layered phyllo dough with cheese, spinach, and beef-and Sarma-stuffed cabbage rolls. Fish fry Fridays feature fish Serbian style, topped with tomatoes, peppers, and onions.

Owner Steve Stojanovich leases the space that was formerly Old Carriage Café and Manko’s Lake Drive Pub and Grill. Stojanovich formerly worked in automobile sales and brought the customer service skills he has gained in that field to his present venture.

“I believe in customer service,” Stojanovich said. “When I ask [a customer] how the food is, I really want to know.”

Stojanovich said he uses fresh ingredients in the food, including tomatoes from his garden. He added that he chose the location because Sheridan Park is across the street and Lake Drive has generated more traffic due to condo developments in the area in recent years.

The clientele has included both area residents and outer suburban dwellers, plus Serbian people. Stojanovich said he would eventually like to expand the current location and possibly open a Stojo’s Two and Stojo’s Three.

Open Sun., Mon, Wed., Thurs., 11am-9pm; Fri. & Sat., 11am-10pm; (414) 870-8930.
