“GRIDLOCK” FILM EXPLORING TRANSIT IN SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN TO AIR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2009, AT 10:00 PM ON Milwaukee Public Television.

An hour-long version of Gridlock: Public Transit in SE Wisconsin, a feature-length documentary focusing on the politically, culturally and emotionally-charged issues surrounding transit and its related government spending, will be airing on:

Friday, September 4, at 10PM on WMVS HD, Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV) Channel 10.1 .

This is a repeat of the original broadcast on July 2, on WMVS HD.
Independent filmmaker Mark Irving, producers Jon Baade and Julie Olson, along with their video/interactive production company i level media, inc., have completed an edited, 50 minute version for local PBS affiliate WMVS-TV. They are now seeking funds to complete a comprehensive, feature-length version by next summer. Gridlock, in both its 50 and 90 minute feature-length versions, examines the question, “Does Southeastern Wisconsin need a modern public transportation system and, if so, what will it be and how does the region go about getting it?

Gridlock focuses on the money, politics and environmental choices as well as the sometimes emotional and personal stories of people in southeastern Wisconsin and the Chicago-Milwaukee metroplex. However, the Gridlock documentary could just as easily have examined similar interurban corridors in the United States where public transportation, traffic problems, the environment and the geographic dispersal of job opportunities are becoming issues. Filmmaker Irving states that there are many metro areas where gridlock is effecting the transportation, economy and politics in ways very similar to those seen in southeastern Wisconsin.

“We scripted, and are producing Gridlock as a one-stop-shop for comprehensive information on modern, public transportation systems” said Mark Irving, Producer-Director. Irving was inspired to begin Gridlock after spending many years traveling to and working in other metro areas, in both the United States and other countries, and noticing one singular difference: Southeastern Wisconsin’s lack of a coordinated, modern, transportation system that other similar-sized metropolitan areas have either built or are in the process of building.
