Pierce launches law firm

August 1, 2012

Bay View resident Jan Pierce established his own law practice July 1. The focus of the firm, Jan Pierce, S.C., is business law.

Prior to establishing his new business, Pierce was an attorney at Mawicke & Goisman, S.C., Milwaukee. Before he began his law career, he served as a corporate accountant and controller for two Milwaukee corporations.

Pierce said that he started his own business to focus on clients he enjoys working with, principally small businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and cooperatives. His services include consulting with clients regarding the type of business entity they choose: a limited liability corporation or corporation; or a
C-Corp versus an S-Corp, for example.

The practice includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating leases and contracts, litigation and alternative dispute resolution, business and real estate transactions, minority business certification, bar and restaurant licensing for start-ups, plus general counsel services.

He plans to run a “low-overhead practice that provides top-notch service to businesses when they need it most—in their start-up phase.”

Pierce said he elected to locate his practice in downtown Milwaukee because it provides convenient access to the courthouses and city hall, because it is a convenient location for clients, and because it is “close enough to Bay View that I can bike to work.”

He noted that the building where his office is located is occupied by a small group of “great lawyers in different areas of practice that provide an excellent built-in referral network of competent lawyers.”

Pierce ran for the District 14 Aldermanic office in spring 2012.
