Airport Noise-Alert: Mitchell runway closures begin Saturday night (May 5)

May 3, 2012

Source: General Mitchell International Airport
Pavement repair and Runway Safety Area (RSA) construction projects are starting that will influence runway utilization. Consequently, some areas around the airport will experience more air traffic than usual.

In 2011, the majority of aircraft activity occurred on the north-south runway to accommodate runway safety improvements on the east-west runway.

This year the north-south runway is closing for the 2012 construction season to comply with FAA mandated runway safety projects.

Beginning Saturday May 5, Runway 1L / 19R, the airport’s main north-south runway, will be closing until August 20, 2012.

Additionally, from Saturday May 5 until August 20, Runway 7R/25L, the main east-west runway, will be closed each weekend to accommodate runway intersection pavement repair during the following times;

Saturday night at 11:30 PM into Sunday morning at 6:00 AM
Sunday at midnight into Monday morning at 5:00 AM

Runway 13/31 will be made available to Airlines that require its use during the 7R/25L closure.
These important safety related construction projects will influence runway utilization and consequently temporarily change air traffic patterns over our community.
