Town Hall Meetings begin in May

April 30, 2012

The Bay View Compass is sponsoring monthly town hall meetings beginning Wednesday, May 23.

The goal of the town hall meetings is to create a public forum and gathering place where constituents, residents, neighbors—the people of in Bay View and surrounding neighborhoods-—may share ideas, insights, and information.

These gatherings will be a place to spend a little face-to-face time with one another to build community cohesion and a greater awareness of the issues and events that affect everyday life and the quality of living our community. They will also be a place to take a reading of residents’ attitudes towards issues, problems, events, etc.

Information we hope to gather and exchange includes that of proposed developments, licenses, crime, the workings of city and county government, and more.

A member of the community, not from the Compass, will moderate the meetings. The agenda of the meetings will be determined by those who attend the meetings or contact us with suggestions and requests.

The first meeting is Wednesday, May 23, from 7-8pm in the cafeteria of Clement Avenue School, 3666 S. Clement Ave. The building is accessible. There is street parking and there is a lot on the south side of the building. Enter the building via front doors and follow signs to the lunchroom.

The first meeting will be exploratory to determine to organize, publicize, and conduct future town hall meetings and to gauge the attendees’ desires concerning topics to be covered at future meetings.

Send your ideas and suggestions about the town hall meetings to editor@bayviewcompass.com or post them on the Bay View Compass Facebook page.

Thank you, Clement Avenue Principal April Swick, for sharing our MPS school with us for these events!
