Teen blood drive July 16 in Bay View
June 29, 2009
The Bay View Community Center, 1320 E. Oklahoma Ave., is looking for community teens and their families to help save lives by donating blood July 16 from 10am to 3pm.
The center is teaming up with the American Red Cross, who partners with the Vans Warped Tour “Music Saves Lives” program. All presenting donors at Music Saves Lives blood drives this summer will receive a free VIP access pass to exclusive behind-the-scenes action when the Vans Warped Tour rolls into Milwaukee July 30.
All eligible donors must complete and return the Bay View Community Center registration packet to schedule an appointment. Registration deadline is July 1. A limited number of VIP access passes are available, so appointments are recommended. Walk-ins will be taken on a space-available basis. To schedule your appointment, contact the center for available time slots at (414) 482-1000 or email Kimberly at kschubring@bayviewcenter.org for more information. On the day of the blood drive teens must present photo ID.
After giving blood, donors will enjoy complimentary refreshments in the canteen area to replenish fluids and sugars, while being monitored by Red Cross staff, in the event of any adverse reactions. To help avoid any complications, donors should make sure to get a lot of rest the night before, make sure to have a good meal two or three hours before their donation, and drink plenty of fluids all day. The entire process from check-in to food and juice takes about one hour. Tickets to the concert must be purchased independently by the donor. The VIP pass allows you to upgrade this ticket.
